I'm hoping this blog helps us not only support one another in our crazy attempts to defy the aging process, but serves as a way to really connect with each other. We are all in so many different places; both literally and figuratively. My hope is that those things become irrelevant as we discuss our hopes, dreams, set backs and progresses not just with our training, but with life, husbands (both x and future), boyfriends, children, school and work. We are a wonderful, powerful group of women and we need each other. At least I know I need all of you. Just think of all we can accomplish together! I'm so excited!

You are the Architect of Your Life

Week One
Beginning the Training Program

  • What do you believe? Are YOU mostly in control of the events in your life? Do you hold yourself responsible for how things go for you? Or do you tend to assign the credit (or blame) to others or to luck, fate or some other force outside your own influence?
  • It doesn't matter whether the events in your life are REALLY in your control or not; it only matters whether you THINK they are.
  • Attitude has nothing to do with facts and everything to do with perspective. Make a positive perspective a habit.
  • Change your thoughts or actions and you change your reality
  • Your state of mind creates a bodily reality. If you tell yourself you're not tired, your brain has no choice but to obey.
  • YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR OWN REALITY

Something I've been doing since week 1 that has really helped with my perspective during running is viewing my "discomfort" (whether it's pain, exhaustion, lack of motivation) as a friendly companion that reminds me I'm alive: that I'm so lucky I have legs or lungs that can get tired. And then I invite "them" to come run with me. I know it sounds weird, but it really helps with developing a positive perspective when I feel like quitting.

I know probably no one is checking this very often any more. At least that is what it seems like but I just want to say I am really really proud of you! And YOU CAN DO IT! (that was said in a thick hispanic accent)
